A Fair Deal for Energy Entrepreneurs
“Conservatives believe that green energy entrepreneurs should be rewarded, not penalised, for empowering people to help fight climate change,” said North Wiltshire MP James Gray this morning.
“That is why I am pleased to support local 100% renewable electricity supplier Good Energy in their campaign for equal feed-in-tariff payment rates under the Government’s Clean Energy Cash-Back scheme.”
“Our microgeneration industry in the UK owes its existence to the early adopters who installed their own generation equipment because they wanted to make a difference to climate change. Many invested their life savings in such schemes because they believed it was the right thing to do,” said Mr Gray.
“It is completely unacceptable that under the Government’s scheme which comes into effect from 1st April, those microgenerators who had installed their generation equipment before 15th July 2009 will not be eligible for the same higher rate of payment as new generators who had installed their equipment after that date. They will get just 9p per kW/h, compared to the higher payment rates of up to 41 per kW/h for new generators.”
“I strongly support Good Energy in their decision to continue paying their existing accredited small generators 15p per kW/h for all the electricity they generate, and will be supporting them and other excellent energy companies like them by signing EDM 953.”
