MP backs the Time Is Running Out campaign
North Wiltshire MP James Gray joined actress Jenny Seagrove, and campaign group Consumers for Health Choice this week to urge Gordon Brown to block Europe’s bid to ban thousands of vitamin and mineral food supplements, used safely in this country for decades.
“Consumers must be allowed to have free access to safe supplements of their choice,” said Mr Gray.
“I oppose the EU Food Supplements Directive and will stand up for retailers to prevent the expected store closures and the thousands of jobs that could be lost by denying the public their right to choose.”
“At the moment, higher-dose supplements, all within proven safe limits, are taken by consumers to deal with everything from general tiredness, SAD syndrome to coughs and colds. It would be wrong if EU bureaucrats were allowed to destroy the British vitamin and food supplements industry. Consumers are angry. The commitment to keep supplements available and to fight bureaucrats in Brussels was made in 2005 under the Blair Government, yet almost five years later the Government has failed to implement its own policy,” added Mr Gray.
