Bollywood Ball

What to wear?

Western smart casual is fine!  But if you'd like to add some glamour, here are some tips; the more colouful the better.

For the Ladies

  • Try looking online – you can google  ‘Bollywood Fancy dress’
  • You can hire a sari, borrow one, or buy your own – take a look on Ebay or see the shops below.  Prices can vary from £5 to £800.
  • Traditionally, if painting your nails then fingers, toes and lipstick should all match
  • Gold bracelets on the ankle
  • Thin bangles on the wrists (approx. 15 is a good length, but the more the better to get the authentic look)
  • And don’t forget the red dot or ‘bindi’ on the forehead
  • Hairstyles are usually straight or up in a ponytail and if you are feeling adventurous try putting necklaces in your hair.

Here’s a small list of shops were you can buy a saree (or sari)

  • No 69 Broadmead, Bristol, BS1 3DQ
  • Glass House, Cabot Circus, Bristol BS1 3BX Tel. 0117 9529360
  • Sultana Saree House, 456 Stapleton Road, BS5 6PA Tel. 0117 952 0672

And anyone who wished to add that final authentic look, we are hoping to have a henna artist available on the night.

And for the gents...?

Always daunting for you chaps - why not try:

  • A long white cotton shirt over loose fitting cotton trousers, pyjama bottoms would probably do the trick – make sure you don’t tuck the shirt in and the longer the better.
  • Decorate with wooden beads
  • Sandals are usually a good option for footwear
  • Add a splash of colour with a bright scarf draped over on shoulder or around the neck
  • Don’t forget your red spot or ‘bindi’ on the forehead.

The Bollywood Ball is on Friday 8th July, 7.30pm at Bremhill Grove Farm - near Chippenham and Calne.

Entertainment is being provided by Bristol’s top Bhangra band, RSVP – playing a mix of modern Asian and European sounds. Food will be a sumptuous delight served by the award winning restaurant The Spice of Bengal.  Tickets at £45 are available from the NWCA office (see 'Contact').
